The Best Way to Wash Your Hair
Many people do not realize that there is a right way and a wrong way to wash hair, and washing your hair the right way is every bit as important as using highest quality hair care products. The right hair care techniques can help to keep your hair looking its best, and to make it as healthy, vibrant and strong as it can be.
The steps to proper hair washing are:
1) When washing your hair, allow it to hang naturally. Do not pile your hair on top of your head to wash it.
2) Use warm water to wet your hair and prepare it for shampoo. Never use hot water, only warm. When wetting your hair, keep the pressure on showerhead low.
3) Pour the shampoo you are using into the palm of your hand.
4) With the shampoo in your hand, work up a good lather, then apply it to your scalp. Massage the shampoo into your scalp, using only the pads of your fingers and not your fingernails. Do not drag your fingers through your hair. Instead, pick your fingers up and move them elsewhere on your scalp.
5) Rinse your hair thoroughly using lukewarm water. As you rinse your hair, be sure it is allowed to hang naturally. It may be necessary to gently spread the hair with your fingertips, especially if your hair is long.
6) Now is the time to use a daily conditioner. The conditioner should be applied to the ends of the hair, not to the scalp like shampoo.
7) After leaving the conditioner on the hair for the recommended time, rinse it out with lukewarm water, making sure to get all the conditioner out of the hair.
8) Gently towel dry your hair. Using a towel wrap is a good way to keep the hair protected and to avoid the damage that can be caused by wrapping a bath towel too tightly.
9) After the hair has been towel dried, apply a leave in conditioner if desired.
10) If you must comb your hair when it is wet, use only a wide tooth comb. Never brush your hair while it is wet.
11) When washing your hair at night, allow it to dry completely before turning in for the night. Sleeping on wet hair can damage it.
